The Mesa Homeowners Card seems to be heading toward closure, and this might come as a surprise to many users. Several account closures have been reported, including my own and those of numerous others who shared their experiences. One of the most notable changes is the disappearance of the option to convert earned points into airline miles or hotel rewards—an appealing feature that many relied on. Now, the only remaining redemption method within the app appears to be exchanging points for a statement credit, which is valued at just about six-tenths of a cent per point. As a result, I decided to cash out my accumulated points.
While the card was beneficial during its peak, it became clear that its business model was unsustainable. The company didn’t seem to generate enough revenue, and I couldn’t see how they planned to turn a profit in the long run. The card’s perks revolved around offering what amounted to an ongoing, monthly bonus just for keeping the card open—effectively giving points for your mortgage payments without requiring you to make those payments directly through the card. These bonuses were unlocked by spending in specific categories that offered triple points, making it seem like a clever incentive at first.
However, it now appears that the company might be shutting down entirely, though I haven’t seen any official communication confirming this. The signs point toward an imminent exit from the market, which raises questions about the future of similar programs and whether they’re truly sustainable or merely short-term gimmicks.
