Ever wondered how a simple plot of land can transform into a versatile living space? Let's dive into the fascinating story of the residential buildings in Xueshan Village, brought to life by DL Atelier. This project isn't just about architecture; it's about adaptability and forward-thinking design.
Located in the Changping District of Beijing, right where the city meets the countryside, these buildings offer a unique blend of accessibility and tranquility. Imagine, just a 30-minute drive from Beijing's Second Ring Road! The project, completed in 2022, covers an area of approximately 350 m².
The architects, Liu Yang and Cai Zhuoqun, were faced with a homeowner who had a vision but needed help to make it a reality. The homeowner, an old friend, had an unused plot of land and several ideas. During their initial discussions, three main possibilities emerged:
- A second home for the homeowner, with occasional visits from his parents.
- Conversion into office space for the homeowner's company after three years.
- Rental property if concrete plans didn't materialize.
And this is the part most people miss... The design process was all about mapping out these different needs to the spatial layout. It’s a testament to the power of thoughtful planning!
