ScottishPower Solar Panel Payment Dispute: How to Get Your Money Back (2026)

ScottishPower's Sluggish Service: A Case Study in Inefficiency and Customer Dissatisfaction

I recently encountered a frustrating experience with ScottishPower, a company that has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The issue at hand? A simple transfer of ownership for my solar panels, a process that should be straightforward and efficient.

As I moved into my new home, I promptly applied to ScottishPower for the transfer of ownership and the feed-in tariff (Fit) associated with the solar panels. After numerous emails and a 10-month wait, I finally received a response indicating that all required information had been received. But here's where the story takes a turn.

The response came 10 months after my initial application, and the promised payment still hasn't materialized. I should be owed over £1,000 by now, yet ScottishPower's glacial approach to Fit transfers is a familiar tale. This isn't the first time the company has faced scrutiny for its slow and inefficient service.

In March, a similar story emerged about a widow who was denied her rightful payments due to ScottishPower's failure to acknowledge her husband's death and transfer ownership accordingly. It took an astonishing seven months for the company to confirm receipt of the required information and an additional month to advise her to register for the payment portal. System glitches further delayed the process, and it took a complaint to prompt a response, which still took up to 12 weeks.

My experience was no different. After a swift resolution was promised, it took another month for the money to arrive, with ScottishPower citing an 'administrative error' and admitting to service shortfalls. They also informed me that the transfer of ownership should take eight to 10 weeks, with payments following within three.

This raises a deeper question: How can a company with such a significant market presence and a supposed commitment to sustainability and environmental initiatives fail to deliver on such basic customer service? It's a stark reminder that behind every complaint is a real person facing real financial strain.

In my opinion, ScottishPower's approach to Fit transfers is a clear indication of a deeper issue within the company. It's time for them to take a step back, reassess their processes, and prioritize customer satisfaction. Until then, customers like me will continue to suffer the consequences of their inefficiency.

What this really suggests is a need for stricter regulations and oversight to ensure companies like ScottishPower are held accountable for their actions and provide timely, efficient service to their customers.
