Unveiling 'Blind Warrior: Angel Eyes' - A New Indonesian Martial Arts Epic (2026)

Get ready to witness the resurrection of a legend! Indonesia’s most iconic martial arts hero is back, and this time, he’s hitting the big screen in a way you’ve never seen before. Magma Entertainment and Bumilangit Entertainment have just unveiled Blind Warrior: Angel Eyes (Si Buta dari Gua Hantu: Mata Malaikat), a bold new adaptation of the beloved Indonesian comic character who has already starred in nine films and 86 TV episodes. But here’s where it gets exciting: this isn’t just another remake—it’s a passion project decades in the making, and it’s set to redefine the action-horror genre in Indonesian cinema.

Announced at the JAFF Market, the film will be directed by Charles Gozali, with production kicking off in 2026 and a planned release in 2027. For Gozali, this project is personal. ‘Having [the IP acquired] was like a dream come true,’ he told Variety. ‘We’ve tried to pitch for a different comic adaptation 12 years ago, so this is very special.’ And this is the part most people miss: Gozali isn’t just a director—he’s a former stuntman and action director who pioneered the horror-action trend with hits like Qodrat (2022) and Qodrat 2 (2025), with Qodrat 3 already in the pipeline. His journey from TV stunts to feature films makes him the perfect visionary to bring this iconic character to life.

But here’s where it gets controversial: Can a modern adaptation truly capture the essence of a decades-old comic series? Gozali insists they’re ‘staying true to the books,’ aiming to preserve the original story’s spirit. ‘There is no local comic series that’s as well known as Si Buta dari Gua Hantu,’ he added, emphasizing the weight of this responsibility. Collaborating with Bumilangit, the team is determined to honor the legacy while introducing the Blind Warrior to a new generation.

Bismarka Kurniawan, founder and CEO of Bumilangit, echoed this sentiment: ‘This film production is an honor for us… We’re looking forward to producing a film that will excite the Indonesian cinema audience and inspire national pride.’ But is national pride enough to satisfy die-hard fans? Or will this adaptation spark debates about authenticity and modernization?

Gozali, who also serves as CEO of Magma Entertainment, sees this project as more than just a film. ‘This is part of our dream to preserve, celebrate, and introduce our legacy of stories to generations to come,’ he said. Bold words, but will they translate into box office success? And more importantly, will this film unite fans or divide them?

As we await 2027, one thing is clear: Blind Warrior: Angel Eyes is poised to be a cultural milestone. But will it live up to the hype? Only time will tell. What do you think—can this adaptation honor the past while thrilling the future? Let us know in the comments!
