The audition was 'crazy,' she admits, with over a thousand women competing for just a few dozen spots. Yet, it was her participation in the Rockettes’ conservatory program—a week-long training session with the troupe—that solidified her determination. 'I got it my first try,' she says, 'but I truly believe it was because of that program that I understood what I was stepping into.'
But here’s where it gets controversial: While the audition process is notoriously competitive, both dancers emphasize the Rockettes’ unique culture of harmony and collaboration. Once accepted, they undergo a grueling six-week training program, preparing for over 100 shows in less than two months. 'We’re athletes,' Wride explains, highlighting the physical demands of performing up to 17 shows a week. Yet, amidst the rigor, there’s a profound sense of sisterhood and shared purpose.
For Harris, stepping onto the stage is more than a personal achievement; it’s a connection to something greater. 'It’s a dream come true for me, but it’s also about honoring the legacy of the women who came before us,' she says.
